Meet Luna, Our New Puppy

It’s been one month since my last post and things have changed in my life. Some of those changes were positive (like getting a puppy) and others were negative.

Let’s see if I can capture the last month in chronological order.

June 8th was my first day of freedom from employment. It felt great to put my previous employer behind me but it wasn’t as much of a relief as I hoped. I let myself get absorbed into that job for 4 long years and let it erode my psyche. I’m still living with that and have yet to actively try to get past it. With that said, I really should make an appointment at the VA…

I also applied for unemployment on June 7th and have yet to hear back from the state. Typical. I even tried calling a few times, only to either wait on hold for 30 minutes or have the automated system hang up on me.

The first week of employment freedom was more like a vacation. Not having to worry about outages and other technical escalations was nice. I was motivated and did a lot of cleaning and organizing in the house. I even wrote a few blog posts for my other websites.

Then the second week came around, bringing depression with it.

I haven’t felt right since then. I’m in quite a rut right now and don’t know how to dig myself out of it. None of my online ventures are panning out, but it’s not like I’m focusing my attention on them as often as I should.

My family and I took a trip to Ohio to visit my father-in-law. It was nice but the drive takes around 12 hours. I am not complaining, however. It wasn’t much of a vacation (we stayed there for 2 days) but it felt great to be somewhere other than home.

The day after we returned, we picked up little Luna, our new puppy. She’s brought back all of my memories of chasing my kids around when they were toddlers. She gets into everything!

So far the cats (I have 3 of them) have treated her well, yet only approach her cautiously. Our oldest cat, Lulu, was awesome with her, but then something must have happened yesterday because since then, she aggressively chases and tries to attack Luna. If you have any tips on how to stop that from happening, please let me know in the comments below. It’s stressful.

Besides that drama, my allergies have triggered again. We’re going to give Luna baths and I have to make an appointment at the VA to see an allergist to get better medicine. Claritin isn’t cutting it any longer.

Of course, it hasn’t been all negatives having Luna. She’s so sweet and the whole family loves her. House training her is going well, too. The first few days were disastrous, as you’d expect. We’re about a week into having her in our family and she just made it through the night in her crate without peeing. In fact, it’s 1:00 pm and she hasn’t had an accident in the house yet.

She enjoys our twice-daily walks and I can’t wait to take her hiking with me. Did I mention I went on two hikes since my last post? It felt great. I recorded some videos from them but haven’t edited them to upload them to my YouTube channel. Stay tuned for that.

That’s all for this post, friends.
