Happy New Year’s day! I spent last night watching the ball drop in Times Square from the warm comfort of my home with my younger two children, Ethan and Mady. We’ve been staying up to watch the ball drop for a few years now and it reminds me of when my mother and I would stay up on New Year’s Eve (my father, like my wife, would always fall asleep hours before midnight).
Surprisingly, I was the only one in the house to sleep last night. The kids stayed up all night in the excitement of the new year and my wife, Manuela, woke up early in the night with acid reflux and couldn’t fall back asleep. I assume by 6 pm tonight I’ll be the only one awake…
Since today is the first day of 2022, I am going to restart my daily walks with Luna again. It’s raining out, so that sucks. Whatever – I’m still going to take her for the walk after dinner.
Random thought – three days ago I replaced the motion-sensor light on my garage so it’s easier to take Luna out at night. However, the electrical housing is low-profile so the screw to mount the sensor doesn’t screw in completely since it hits the back of the housing. I’ll have to replace the housing with the correct 4-gang box this spring. I swear there’s always something extra to do when I do any projects around the house.
I’m going to chill with buying things for a while. It’s not the cost that makes me want to stop. It’s the trash! Since we have city-provided trash and recycling containers, we’re limited on how much we can put out each week. Plus, recycling only gets picked up every other week. I figure it’ll be February by the time we’re caught up and the den will be clear of cardboard boxes and bags of styrofoam packaging.
Of course, I can’t wait until that day so I can enjoy the den with zero clutter or trash.
Oh, and Betty White died yesterday. She was the last of the Golden Girls and probably the funniest woman that ever lived. Sad.
